Sydney Winter Holiday 2014 (Day 5): Westfield Bondi: Gelato Bar Bondi ~ Review

Right opposite Kam Fook at Westfield Bondi is Gelato Bar. We first discovered this cake and pastry shop about 4 years back along the shops at Bondi and we fell in love with their pastries. As we were overstuffed with dim sums, we opt for only one of our favourite pastry and take away the rest for later.

Just look at all those awesome pastries. My sister told me that some of those sold at their original Bondi shop can sold out as early as the afternoon so we decided to stick to the little branch here, instead of driving to the beach and visit the original shop. Anyway enough talking, this is our favourite whenever we pay a visit there:

Chocolate Hazelnut Strudel
The Chocolate Hazelnut Strudel. Oh this thing is awesome because of so many things:
1. It is super crispy. Each of those layers are just so so SO crispy. And don't forget that crunchy nuts in between the layers. The only downside from this crispiness is the messiness caused by cutting or biting into this, but the sacrifice is just so worth it.
2. Chocolate Hazelnut = Nutella flavour and there's no such thing as bad dessert when there's Nutella in it. Full stop. Oh and their Chocolate Hazelnut is made from scratch from what I know. It's also not overly sweet, which is great.
3. The combination of the sweetness and crispiness is just HEAVEN. I remembered a time when I asked my dad to brought this back to SG but unfortunately you won't get the crispiness if you don't eat it fresh on the day itself :(

We also take away these babies..
From the top clockwise: Granada, Vanilla Slice, and Rum Ball
I will comment much on these three, especially the Vanilla Slice because we had a little incident with these - We accidentally left it overnight outside the fridge and only realising it the next evening. At that point of time, the Vanilla has became a little sour though the pastry is still quite crunchy :( but yeah, sad.

The Granada is basically a yellow sponge cake covered in chocolate. The sponge cake is really soft with a hint of sweetness which makes it a good pair with the sweet outer layer chocolate.

The Rum Ball, on the other hand, is a a chocolate shaped-ball infused with rum and covered with chocolate sprinkles. I love how you can taste the richness of the chocolate and the rum is just nice, adding sweetness and alcohol taste without being overboard.

In summary, don't leave Sydney without heading to Gelato Bar for the pastries :)
